A unique T-Shirt Design
We were tasked with designing, and producing, a custom piece of apparel with four colors using Adobe Illustrator and the heat press. Unfortunatley, due to COVID-19, we were unable to complete the production process, however we were able to draw up what we wanted to be put on the T-Shirt in Illustrator. Here are the steps I took to design my custom T-Shirt!
Designer Notebook Draw Up
A little backstory on the design. My freshman year, I decided not to swim for the high school team and instead focus on my goals oriented around club swimming. During that time, three of my teammates and I created a group called the Poncho Squad. It was created because I have very splashy flip turns and I jokingly suggested that my teammate wore a poncho while counting for my distance races. They did, and the name has stuck ever since. Because of thta, I wanted to design a T-Shirt that I could wear that showed the logo we drew up for our group.
Illustrator Design
Final Design!
I think it turned out pretty sweet! Too bad we couldn't actually produce the T-Shirt, I wouldv't worn it a ton!
Summary
Throughout this unit, I learned many different lessons. One of those lessons was that it is VERY different to work at home. It was very challenging to stay on track and stay focused on your work, and at the same time, make sure you get the content down for all classes. Having the online learning program definitely threw a curve ball in the year and this unit.
But, I was able to overcome those challenges by downloading the software needed for this unit such as Illustrator, and I was able to create a design that met all of the requirements. As I said previously, its too bad that we couldn't use the vinyl cutter and heat press to acutally produce the custom apparel, but it was a great opportunity to learn more about Illustrator and what it has to offer.
